Polyurethane is a very versatile plastic material; for this reason it is a solution used in different product sectors. Polyurethane (PU) is a polymer obtained by the polyaddition between a poly-isocyanate and a polyol. There are various types of polyurethane: flexible or rigid foam, compact rigid or elastic. Moreover, it is available in different densities, which allows for a wide range of solutions for every need. An increase in density leads to an increase in mechanical strength; for this reason, the main feature of high density polyurethane is its easy workability with high precision results: consequently, it is applicable to all sectors relating to craftsmanship, model making, communication, design and prototyping. Structural rigid expanded polyurethanes, used mainly in furniture and boating, have a useful life of over 50 years and allow an infinite number of surface finishes. Light and versatile, they are resistant to high temperatures, to atmospheric agents and to chemical and biological impermeable agents, they guarantee acoustic and thermal insulation.
Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene or ABS, is a common thermoplastic polymer used to create light and rigid items such as tubes, musical instruments, golf club heads, parts or automotive bodies and toys. ABS is a copolymer derived from polymerised styrene together with acrylonitrile in the presence of polybutadiene, and therefore can be defined as a terpolymer. The proportions can vary from 15% to 35% of acrylonitrile, from 5% to 30% of butadiene and from 40% to 60% of styrene. It has good stiffness and toughness at low temperatures up to -40°C, high hardness, resistance to shocks and scratches.
